Initially, out of an abundance of caution, COVID-19 vaccines were recommended to not be administered within 14 days of other vaccinations. This can lead to an up to 8- week delay of others vaccines, and in some cases, not getting vaccinated at all.
With all the data to date, the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) state that COVID-19 vaccines can be administered at the same times as other vaccines or at any point in relation other vaccinations.
Childhood vaccination rates, in particular, have declined sharply during pandemic, and CDC and AAPV have emphasized the importance of these other vaccinations to keep other preventable illness in check.
This change has incredible implications for ensuring timely access to all recommended vaccinations. For example, not everyone has the ability to make multiple visits routine vaccinations, particularly during a pandemic.
